Like in 2006 Denmark are Women’s Youth World Champions. In a nail-biting final of the IV Word Championship in Bar, Montenegro, against Russia, the Scandinavians profited from a last second goal of Freja Kyndbal and took revenge for the last second defeat against Russia in the European championship final in 2011. Like then, Norway is bronze medallist, beating Romania in the 3-4 placement match.

The Russian girls hade made their final step to the final of the only unbeaten teams of the IV Women’s Youth World Championship in Montenegro. By winning their semifinal against Norway clearly 33:27 on Saturday, they took their sixth victory in their sixth match and face Denmark on Sunday (18:15 hrs local times) in the gold medal match.

Russia is one of the dominating powers in women’s youth and junior handball since decades. No team had become Junior World Champions more often, nearly no team have such a high number of highly talented players. But despite this youth programme the women’s team missed the semifinals and the medals at the two past major competitions: the 2011 Women’s World Championship in Brazil and the Olympic Games in London.
