In the match between ESP and RUS the decisive factor was the performance of the RUS goalkeepers Maria Sidorova (178 cm) and Anna Sedoykina (190 cm). After her comeback in the Russian squad, Sidorova achieved the unbelievable efficiency of more than 60 % (she saved 14 shots out of 22) in the first half. Unexpectedly, the RUS coach Trefilov send Sedoykina in for the second half and with 38 % efficiency she also reached a very satisfactory result. Both RUS goalkeepers demonstrated a very effective goalkeeping style. They act actively against the opponent and wait with the decisive defence movement until the best moment has come. The series of pictures illustrate the defence activity of both goalkeepers.

SIDOROVA

Sidorova is prepared for the 7-metre shot. Note the basic position and activity of her feet. Very shortly before the shot is executed her feet and knees are ready to start the defensive movement. The arms are moving up.

Rebound from right foot, active movement with left leg and both arms.

Sidorova is getting back into the starting position because the action of the 7-metre executor was a fake.  She starts the new defensive action.

Defensive movement is now executed much more dynamically into the expected direction. Remarkable is the strong motion of the body:  both arms and the left calf are moved against the ball.

 SEDOYKNA

Sedoykina moves into the direction of the jumping opponent and waits in the optimal starting position until the best moment has come to start with the final defensive action.

The dynamic action itself. Despite the fact that in this case Sedoykina was not successful, these pictures are a good example to illustrate her perfect goalkeeping technique.
