The host Turkey and the World Champion in both Competitions(mens and womens) Croatia were automatically qualifired for this event.
The European Beach Handball Championships that took place in 2009 in Larvik was the qualifying Event for the IV Beach Handball World Championships for the nations coming from Europe. According to the results there, the following teams qualified for the mens tournament: Spain, Hungary, Russia and Denmark, and in the womens tournament the qualifiers were: Italy, Norway, Ukraine, Spain, and Hungary. Denmark was invited as a substitute nation, since no womens team from Africa played on the Championships.
From the other Continents, since no qualifying Event was staged, the Executive Committee of the International Handball Federation decided to nominate the particpating nations.
