The International Handball Federation and the Serbian
Handball Federation have announced the major facts and figures of the Women’s
World Championship in Serbia in a closing press conference on Sunday (22
December) in Belgrade, prior to the medal matches of the competition.
Additionally the IHF announced new and extended marketing contracts.
The IHF was represented by President Dr. Hassan
Moustafa, Executive Committee Members Sandi Sola and Joel Delplanque and Leon
Kalin, Chairman of the Commission for Organization and Competition. The Serbian
Handball Federation was represented by Velimir Marjanovic, President, and
Bozidar Djurkovic, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Women’s World
Championship.

The matches of the Women’s World Championship in
Serbia were broadcasted in 140 countries by more than 30 TV stations including
internationally known main broadcasting partners from key handball markets,
like TV2 Denmark, TV2 Norway, Canal plus, DR Denmark, Sport 1 or Al Jazeera.

IHF
Anti-Doping Unit:
Doping controls were taken at all stages of the
competition in close cooperation of Prof. Hosny Abdelrahman (head of IHF
Anti-Doping Unit) and the Serbian National Anti-Doping Agency. Before the final
day 64 in-competition samples and additionally 12 blood samples were taken –
all results are negative so far.
Referees:
16 referee couples from four continents had been
nominated for this event. The average age of the nominated referees in Serbia was
33.8 years.
All nominated referees are under permanent IHF
training, some in separate courses or in the Global Referee Training Program
(GRTP). By now, the IHF has not received any formal protest regarding the
referee performances in this World Championship.

More than 450 media representatives (TV commentators,
written press, photographers, radio, internet media) were accredited.

Al
Jazeera new IHF TV rights partner
The International Handball Federation announced the
new partner for global TV media rights for the Men’s and Women’s World
Championships 2015 and 2017 (including the TV production): As decided by the
IHF Council Al-Jazeera is the new IHF TV rights partner for the abovementioned
period.
Gerflor
extends partnership until 2017
IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa and Lionel Arlin
(Gerflor) signed the new contract of the IHF/Gerflor partnership during the
closing press conference in Belgrade.
Thanks to its partnership with the IHF since 2009,
Gerflor is the exclusive supplier for all official IHF competitions. Gerflor and IHF are proud to announce a new
partnership for 2014-2017. Gerflor will be once again the official
supplier of all IHF World Championships for the next four years. Gerflor,
through IHF agreements, supplied courts for Handball tournaments during the
Olympic Games in London in 2012 and will supply courts for the handball
tournaments in Rio in 2016.
IHF
competitions:
The IHF Council awarded in its meeting on Saturday (21
December) in Belgrade the 2014 Men’s and Women’s Beach Handball World
Championships and the 2015 Men’s Junior World Championship to Brazil.
Additionally the official contracts for the 2015
Women’s Youth World Championship in FYR Macedonia and the 2015 Women’s Junior
World Championship in Croatia were signed during the final press conference by
IHF President Dr. Hassan Moustafa and representatives of the respective
federations.
Voting for the
Grundfos IHF World Handball Players of the Year 2013
IHF President Dr. Hassan Moustafa officially announced
the nominees for the voting for the Grundfos IHF World Handball Players of the
Year 2013 during the closing press conference in Belgrade. After the nomination
by an IHF expert jury, now fans and media all around the world can cast their
votes for those nominees until 17January 2014.

The Grundfos IHF World Handball Players of the Year
2013 will be awarded by Dr. Hassan Moustafa and Grundfos Representative Mr Kim
Klastrup on 26 January 2014 on the fringes of the final day of the Men’s European
Championship in Herning/Denmark.
Athletes
Commission
The IHF Arbitration Commission reviewed the voting
results of the election for the IHF Athletes Commission and did not approve the
outcome, as the quorum (over 50%) was not achieved and the result is therefore not
in accordance with the IHF Statutes.
The Arbitration Commission will deal with this issue
and decide if and in which form a second ballot will be conducted.
