SPAIN DEFENCE

Enter Title

In the opening duel between Spain and Algeria (27 : 14) was key factor of very apparent victory of home team the defence. Spain players astonished the opponent with very open and flexible formation. Algeria was able to enlist in first half time only five goals (14 : 5). The Spain supremacy in defence was particularly clear with central quartet of defenders:  MORROS (number 24) as front center (FC) and GUARDIOLA (30) as back center (BC) - both playing only in defence – and ENTRERRIOS (2) as left half (LH) and MAQUEDA (5) as right half (RH) – both also in the attack.
The basic principles of Spain defence central quartet are in the short description:
  • - FC is acting deep of opponent formation (occasionally nearly 18 meters away from own goal). If necessary firstly if one of opponent backs is running in the pivot area) is FC moving back (e.g. Clip 3).
  • - BC is primarily responsible for the defence organization from behind.
  • - LH and RH are acting very anticipative before is ball coming in your space. If necessary they can follow the pivot if is running in the center of attack formation (e.g. Clip 2).
The result of consequent Spain defence tactic was especially by the start of both half (basic line up):

Clip 1. Technical mistake of Algeria attackers

Clip 2. Discontinuance of Algeria attack and cut off with light faul

Clip 3.Shooting under the pressure and against the block of tall defender  Clip 4.Steeling the ball by defender
