Prior to the WCh in Sweden he was regarded as shooting star of the German team, as it was at the age of 19 that he was wearing the national team jersey for the first time. Despite strong competition for the left-wing position, Gensheimer, who plays for Rhein-Neckar Löwen, succeeded in becoming a regular player of the national team at the latest at the 2010 ECh. By now he has become the unchallenged number one on his position. His particular strengths are his large variability in terms of throwing and his accuracy in scoring goals out of the game as well as from the 7-metre point.
