The IHF Super Globe 2014 was
more than a usual tournament. It was a test event for the upcoming Men’s World
Championship, taking place in January 2015. For that reason a main topic was
the status of preparations for 2015.
IHF President Dr Hassan
Moustafa praised the efforts and achievements of the Qatari Emir, HH Sheikh
Tamim bin Hamad al Thani for sports in general and handball in particular: “His
full support will guarantee that the 2015 World Championship will be a success,
making Qatar the best host ever of a World Championship.”
Several meetings between the
2015 Organizing Committee and representatives of the IHF took place on the
fringes of the Super Globe, including inspections of the newly built arenas.
Moustafa praised the role of Qatar in sports: “Qatar plays an important role in
the world of sports. Many World Championships are
scheduled to take place in Qatar and I would like to wish all the success for
the future.”
The 2015 Men’s World
Championship will be played in three venues – all of them are completely new. Beside
the two arenas Al-Sadd Multi-Purpose Hall with a capacity of 7800 spectators and
the big Lusail Arena with a capacity of 17.000 spectators, the third arena has
passed its test event. The Qatar Handball Association Complex was the event
arena for the Super Globe and the participants were impressed about the new
building. IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa made a positive conclusion about the
status of the ongoing preparations of the different commissions, which had
presented their efforts during the last days.
Pointing on the Super Globe,
Dr Moustafa is highly satisfied with the outcome of the tournament, which is
played in Doha since 2010, especially with regard to the development of handball
in Qatar: “The IHF Super Globe is a big success and developed the Qatar team’s
performance. I am glad to see that the Super Globe has helped Qatar. Now they
can see the first results of their efforts. With the national team and – we saw
it here – with the club teams too.”
