SG Flensburg-Handewitt (GER) vs. El-Jaish Sports Club (QAT) 27:17 (15:6)
After the disaster from the
semi-final SG Flensburg-Handewitt presented a better placement match for rank
three and also with the presence of Thomas Mogesen. The playmaker was injured
the day before. From the beginning on the winner of the European Champions
league played highly concentrated in defence. Based on that and with strong
goalkeeper Matthias Andersson the Germans took the lead after 15 minutes and from
that point on they made a lot of easy goals with fast break. El-Jaish played brave
but without a realistic possibility to bring the favourite in trouble. After 30
minutes the match was pre-decided. After the break Flensburg-Handewitt played
differently than during the match before well concentrated too and with their
strong performance the Germans destroyed the last hope of El-Jaish for a
comeback. Finally Flensburg won and saved rank three. The Army Club from Doha
finished on the fourth rank.
Ljubomir Vranjes (coach from Flensburg): I’m satisfied with my team today. We played well and for me it was an
experience to see how it works with playmaker Thomas Mogesen. Finally we go
home with the third place and a lot of new impressions. I wish our host all the
best for the World Championship.
Zoran Kastratovic (coach from El Jaish): It is difficult to resume the match. It was our third match against a
European top team within four days. Flensburg acted great in defence and made
it difficult for us to found a way to the goal.
Hampus Wanne (player from Flensburg): Our defence was the way to victory. It was our best performance during
the tournament and the victory was well deserved.
Mahmoud Osman (player from El-Jaish): After the match against Flensburg during the preliminary round we were
hoping for a surprise. But today Flensburg was stronger than the last days and
there was no chance for us to win the match. Finally we are not unsatisfied
with rank four.
