The IHF top
coaches’ symposium held on the fringes of the 2012 IHF Super Globe came to an
end in Doha, Qatar, on Friday 31 August. IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa
handed over the certificates to the 128 coaches from all over the world after
the theoretical and practical lessons had finished.
In his closing
speech Moustafa underlined that this coaching symposium was only the start of
intense IHF support for coaches: “You can count on our help. You are in the
focus of the players and the teams and you are responsible for promotion and
development of handball in the future”, the IHF President stated, adding: “This
symposium was to provide you with guidelines for your work you will have to
fill with life and ideas individually. You are to make handball an emerging
sport, you are the handball ambassadors of a good product.”
As part of a
short evaluation the participants praised the symposium and simultaneously
expressed their wish to have more time at upcoming events than this time to
work and to rather focus one basic items. “I have never attended a lecturers’
course like this, in which all parts had been synchronized like this. One
module added to the next to build up a basis for the participants,” German coach
Michael Biegler, one of the lecturers, rated the symposium.
Biegler and
Sweden’s former world-class goalkeeper Mats Olsson were responsible for the
practical lessons, top coaches like Alfred Gislason (THW Kiel) and Talant
Dushebajew (Atletico Madrid) gave the participants in-depth insights of their
coaching philosophies and tactical means in attack and defense.
The major topic
of the symposium was a five-part analysis of the London 2012 Olympic
Games. Another subject dealt with the interpretation of major Rules
issues such as offensive fouls, steps, and the referee analysis of the Olympic
Games.
