Technical and tactical superiority

The first semi-final of the women’s youth at the Olympic handball tournament was very clear: Russia prevailed in all respects and, thanks to a 41:19 victory, became the first team to reach the final of the first ever Youth Olympic Games.
The team had clear advantages mainly in terms of physical and athletic strength. The Russian players achieved to prevail against the very offensive 3:3 defense of Kazakhstan over and over in 1 against 1 situations. The pictures show a very good example of the Russian center back court player Ekaterina Chernobrovina: After a movement to the side, a run fake to the non-shooting arm side is carried out, followed – after receiving the ball – by a fast change of direction with the ball and break to the shooting arm side. The combination of basic attacking moves, fakes, changes of direction and break variations is part of essential basic training of players in order to meet modern playing requirements.

 The center back blocks the movement to the left, whereas the opponent tries to get back to the front.  In opposition to the movement direction of the opponent, the break with the ball to the shooting arm side is carried out.
