Olympic handball tournament, men’s youth, EGY-FRA, Semi-final

Easy goals through consistent high-speed handball

By defeating France in the semi-final and reaching the Olympic final, Egypt has certainly achieved one of its greatest successes in handball history.
The most impressive characteristics were the fighting spirit, the strength in tackling and also the high motivation of all players, who retained control and showed discipline also in the crucial stages of the match. After 6 months of work, the German coach Jörn-Uwe Lommel, who focuses on a collective team performance in attack and defense, has clearly pointed the way.
Egypt, thanks to well-directed passes, achieved to make room for 1 against 1 actions and long-range shots from the center of attack, against the very offensive 5:1 defense – the center front and the half right played far in front of the free-throw line.
The pictures show a good example of a fast throw-off: Two players directly run to the pivot positions and make room for the powerful back court throwers of the Egyptian team.

The pivot and the Egyptian left wing carried out the fast throw-off.
The left wing (No. 8) passes to the right wing and runs to the pivot positions, together with the pivot.
The French players try to organize themselves, whereas the right wing controls the ball.

As the defense gets more compact, the right wing stops his run and tactically slows down the pace.

Both pivots take care of the defense on the right side. The right wing passes to the right back, who finds open space to the inside.

There are obviously communication problems in the French defense, which acts too defensively.
The free right back court player prepares his shot on goal from the center of attack.

The majority of Egypt on the left side is clearly visible.v
