Singapore Youth Olympic Games, Girls (Women) Preliminary Round

Angola – Brazil – a match with flexible defense strategies

On the second match day, this match was already of decisive character, as both teams had good chances for reaching the semi finals. In a close match with frequent changes of who were in the lead, the defense players were dominating. Brazil started with a very active 6:0 defense, but also partly played in a 5:1 and even 4:2 formations. The very rarely seen 4:1 defense (one man less on the court) was in the end decisive for the final result in the match – in favor of the Brazilians (30:27)!

Angola also played an active 5:1 defense, where the front center defender disturbed the attackers very offensively. As an alternative, they also showed a 6:0 defense. Overall, we have seen a selection of different defense formations in the girls tournament – Kazakhstan even played with a 3:3 defense, respectively a 1:5 defense – so in any case not a match consisting of only 6:0 defense.
