Pattaya Beach in Thailand was the venue for the "First Asian Open Beach Handball Tournament". National teams of Oman, Indonesia, Vietnam and host Thailand competed in two rounds on the fully equipped courts of Pattaya. After four days of tight competition, the teams of Oman (winner), Thailand (second), Indonesia (Bronze medal) in the men’s tournament and  Thailand (Gold), Vietnam (Silver) and Indonesia (Bronze) in the women’s tournament clinched the medals at this magnificent event.

Under the supervision of IHF and the Asian Continental Federation AHF, the tournament was an occasion to hold the Beach Handball Master Continental courses for Referees and Coaches. Panos Antoniou (Cyprus) lectured the referees whereas the referee’s course was also supervised by Dawud Tawakoli (Iran) as AHF representative. Six referee pairs from Iran, Qatar, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand (two couples) and delegates from Vietnam, Bahrain, Thailand and Indonesia passed the course successfully.
The Serbian Sasa Kuburovic was nominated by IHF to lecture 18 coaches from Asian countries who were very satisfied with the high-level quality of this course. Opening and closing ceremonies of this event as well as the daily matches were attended by several thousands of spectators.
