The IHF Trophy - North
America & the Caribbean Continental Phase will be held in West Dundee, Illinois from
November 17 to 20, with a total of eight teams competing in the men’s youth and
junior competitions. Guadeloupe, Mexico and Martinique will take part in both
categories. Hosts USA will vie for the title in the junior competition, while
Canada will play the youth.
In the youth category,
for U18 squads, the teams will each play one match over the first three days of
round-robin competition. At the end of the preliminary games, the two
top-ranked sides will qualify for the final, and the bottom two will play for
bronze. The opening day of competition will see Canada taking on Guadeloupe,
before Mexico meet Martinique.
The junior competition
will follow the same format, with the four nations playing each other once. The
two best-ranked teams will then contest the trophy game, and the two
lower-placed squads will battle for third place. Guadeloupe and Mexico will
open the junior competition with their clash on day one, while Martinique will
begin their campaign against the USA.
The winners of the
junior competition will qualify for the IHF Trophy - Intercontinental Phase,
where a place at the 2019 Men’s Junior World Championship will be decided.
For what is the first
IHF Trophy - North America & the Caribbean, IHF technical delegates
from Brazil, Mexico and Czech Republic have been nominated, along with referees
from USA, Brazil, Mexico and Colombia.
