The Men’s IHF Trophy North American & Caribbean Zone I Championships concluded at the Lifezone 360 Facility in West Dundee, Illinois, USA on Saturday (12 May) with the USA junior side and Canada youth team winning their respective competitions.

In the youth competition (players born on or after 1 January 2000) which featured Canada, Martinique and USA, teams played each other twice with Canada recording a clean sweep of four victories (vs USA 40:19, 42:22 and vs Martinique 33:26, 29:24). Martinique finished second, with the USA in third.

Despite that bottom spot in the youth competition, the hosts took the honours in the junior tournament as they won all their games (vs Canada 25:23, Dominica 46:15, Martinique 32:13 and Haiti 60:14).

Martinique finished as runners-up, losing just once, against the USA, while Canada were in third. In what was to eventually prove to be a 4th/5th play-off Dominica beat Haiti 38:26 (19:17) in a match where a player from each side scored 13 times – Nathan Sebastien for Dominica and Johny Jean Charles for Haiti.

All games were streamed live in cooperation with USA Team Handball on the Official IHF Facebook page as the winning Canadian and American teams as well as runners-up Martinique can now look forward to progressing into the IHF Trophy continental play-offs later in the year.
