From 8 to 14 April 2019, 12 teams from North America and the Caribbean (NAC) will take to the court at the first Men’s NAC Emerging Nations Championship – today, the draw for the event was held at the IHF Head Office in Basle, Switzerland.

 

According to the draw procedure, the teams in pot 3 were drawn to groups A to D in row 3 first, followed by the teams in pot 2, which were drawn to groups A to D in row 2. Afterwards, the Dominican Republic, as organisers, had the prerogative to assign themselves a group of their choice in row 1 before the remaining teams in pot 1 were drawn to the groups in row 1.

 

The Handball Federation of the Dominican Republic assigned themselves group C, which means they will compete against Haiti and St. Kitts and Nevis in the group phase. 

 

The result of the draw is as follows:

 

Group A:

Canada (CAN), Puerto Rico (PUR), Dominica (DMA)

 

Group B:

Mexico (MEX), Martinique (MTQ), Trinidad and Tobago (TTO)

 

Group C:

Dominican Republic (DOM), Haiti (HAI), St. Kitts and Nevis (SKN)

 

Group D:

USA, Cuba (CUB), Barbados (BAR)

 

After the group phase, which finishes on 10 April, the teams ranked first and second in each group play the quarter-finals, while the third-ranked teams play in the placement group 9-12. After a rest day, the semi-finals will be played on 13 April and the bronze medal match as well the gold medal match take place on 14 April.
