On 25 March, the Handball Federation of Uruguay communicated their withdrawal from the Men’s South and Central American qualification to the 2019 IHF Men’s Junior (U21) World Championship to the International Handball Federation, who deeply regret this decision.

“Uruguay has always been present in all the continental and world tournaments to which it has had the opportunity to classify, and this pains us even more,” stated Alejandro Acosta, General Secretary of the federation, in his letter to the IHF.

The teams from Argentina (ARG), Brazil (BRA), Chile (CHI), Colombia (COL), Paraguay (PAR) and Venezuela (VEN) will now fight for the three remaining tickets to the Men’s Junior World Championship.

Due to the withdrawal, the match scheme has been changed and the tournament will be played on a round-robin basis.
