Tegucigalpa, Honduras is the setting for the Central America regional IHF Trophy tournament which gets underway on Tuesday 26 June and concludes on Saturday 30 June.

 

The Honduran capital city will welcome nine teams in the Men’s Youth (born on or after 1 January 2000) and Junior (born on or after 1 January 1998) tournaments with the hosts joined by Costa Rica (CRC), El Salvador (ESA) and Guatemala (GUA) in the youth tournament and Nicaragua (NCA), the additional team in the junior competition.

 

All games will be played at the San Jose del Carmen school with the youth competition – featuring four teams – seeing each team play each other once and then the top two playing off for gold and third and fourth playing for bronze.

 

The junior competition – with five teams – will be played in a round-robin format with the team finishing top after all games, claiming the title.

 

The eventual winning teams from both age categories will advance to the IHF Trophy Continental Phase, to be held later this year, with the winners of the eventual IHF Trophy Intercontinental Junior Championships earning an automatic spot at the 2019 IHF Men’s Junior World Championships in Spain.

 

In 2019, the IHF Trophy will be for junior and youth women’s teams with the same format and qualification potential for the following years’ IHF Junior World Championships (2020).

 

The IHF Trophy will then continue to alternate between men’s and women’s competitions each year.
