Overview:

Algeria 2017 signifies FYR Macedonia’s third participation at the IHF Men’s Junior World Championship. After their debut in 1997 – when they placed 15th –, they returned at the 2007 edition to rank 10th. Winning Group 3 at the U21 European Qualification secured them a World Championship spot they couldn’t obtain last year at the U20 continental competition.

From 4-6 January, the Macedonians defeated Poland (30:22) and Turkey (39:19) and draw at 21:21 versus Portugal at the qualifiers. A better goal difference allowed them to finish ahead of the Portuguese side in the group – booking them tickets for Algeria.

HC Metalurg left back Filip Taleski and HC Metalurg 2 right wing Mice Shilegov were Macedonia’s heroes at the Qualification competition with 20 goals each. Coach Ile Temelkovski relies on their power and effectiveness to make the team’s attack work.

FYR Macedonia will meet Spain, Tunisia, Brazil, Burkina Faso and Russia in the preliminary round of the 2017 Men’s U21 World Championship in Algeria.

Group C: Spain, Tunisia, FYR Macedonia, Brazil, Burkina Faso and Russia.
