Eight women’s U-21 teams currently face in the eighth edition of the IHF/EHF Trophy in Larissa, Greece, which had started on Wednesday 26 March 2014, simultaneously to the rounds 3 and 4 of the qualification for the women’s European championship all over Europe.
The participating teams have been drawn to two groups of four, with Greece, Moldova, Latvia and Belgium in group A, and Bulgaria, Estonia, Israel and Armenia in group B. After two rounds of the preliminary round, host Greece and Bulgaria top the tables with a clear record of two wins.
Greece had beaten Latvia (29:19) and Belgium (25:21) in their opening matches of group A, while Bulgaria remained victorious against Israel (24:21) and Armenia (24:15) in group B.
The preliminary round will be completed on Friday (28 March), followed by a placement round for the positions 5 to 8 and the semi-finals, bronze final and final on Saturday and Sunday (29/30 March).
The winner of this European IHF Trophy will clinch their berth for the Intercontinental IHF Trophy. Bulgaria had been the winner of this global competition in Monterrey, Mexico, this winter. Their forerunners Finland now made the next step by competing in the EHF EURO qualification rounds after increasing their performance level thanks to the IHF Trophy.
