IHF Lecturer Juan Lorenzo Anton
Garcia ran a Handball@School course in four Albanian cities from the middle to
the end of October. From the 15th to the 28th, Garcia travelled between Tirana,
Skhoder, Vlora and Elbasan to conduct the courses held mainly in secondary
school sports halls.
The courses covered both
theoretical and practical aspects of handball, including revision of the basic
Rules of the Game, planning, how to adapt the sport to teach to children of all
ages, basic attacking and defensive skills, and a look at high-level handball. Following
the theoretical and practical lessons, the participants completed a test.
Approximately 40 Physical
Education teachers took part in each city, very few of whom had previous
experience with handball, but showed high interest in developing their skills
and knowledge of the sport.
“The local organizers were, at
any moment, kind in all the aspects relative to organisation, such as the halls
where the theoretical or practical lessons were conducted, aspects relative to
maintenance and lodging, attention to the students, and the transports from one
city to another, as well as those of each city,” said Garcia in his official
report. “Their attentions were magnificent in the personal plane, very
specially on the part of Armand Cakali, Secretary General of the Federation of
Albania.”
