Zagreb has been announced as the host of the first ever EUSA
EHF University Beach Handball Championship, to be held in July. The exact date
is yet to be confirmed, but the championship will be played between July 24 and
29.
The event will be organised at Jarun Lake by the Croatian
Academic Sports University. Jarun Lake has been the venue of choice for major
events such as the Beach Handball EURO 2017 and European Beach Tour
competitions including the Jarun Cup.
The beach handball department of the Croatian Handball
Federation “are expecting a top experience, lots of action and attractions on
hot sandy terrain, as well as lots of fun.”
Croatia are one of the pioneering nations in beach handball,
holding a total of three World Championship titles and six European trophies.
At the 2018 Beach Handball World Championship, Croatia claimed the silver medal
in the men’s competition. They have the second-highest overall medal count on
the world stage, with six medals won between the women’s and men’s sides – the
only more successful nation is Brazil. At the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos
Aires last October, Croatia won the silver medal in the girls’ competition.
Beach Handball Croatia also have a busy calendar of events
over the summer, to which they added a camp for children aged six to 12,
‘Rokusbumba’, last year. In 2018, Croatia announced as well that beach handball
would be offered as an optional subject by the University of Zagreb Faculty of
Kinesiology.
