Late last night in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire Angola beat Egypt 29:19 (16:8) in the final game of the CAHB 24th African Womens Junior Championship to take the title of the best womens junior in the continent for the third time in a row and a record ninth time.

Their 2017 win makes it their third in a row after the country won the last two editions, in 2015 in Nairobi, Kenya and 2013 in Oyo, Republic of the Congo.

The Polyvalente Sports Park in Abidjan saw seven teams Angola (ANG), Egypt (EGY), Algeria (ALG), DR Congo (COD), Côte d'Ivoire (CIV), Mali (MLI) and Cape Verde (CPV) play each other on a round-robin basis with Angola finishing top of the group and crowned champions, Egypt in silver and Côte d'Ivoire in bronze.

The CAHB African Womens Junior Championship started back in 1980 in Lagos, Nigeria and has run on a two-year cycle since, except for a three-year gap between the 2006 and 2009 editions.
