DR Congo’s capital city Kinshasa is welcoming teams from across the region as the 2019 IHF Women’s Trophy Africa - Zone IV tournament starts tomorrow (Wednesday 22 May) and lasts until Sunday (26 May).

Two competitions will take place – one for youth players (Under 17, born in 2002 and younger) and one for junior (U19, born in 2000 and younger) players.

Four nations will each field a team in both the junior and youth competitions, with Central African Republic (CAF), Cameroon (CMR), DR Congo (COD) and Morocco (MAR) competing for regional glory.

Both the junior and youth competitions will be played in a round-robin league format, with all teams playing each other once. The top two in each group will then play off for the gold medal and third and fourth place will play for bronze.

All games will be played at the Kinshasa Renes French School (Lycée Francais de Kinshasa Renes), with referees Ondeko Georges/Okwakau Yeseh Kennedy (KEN)/Beloum Sonia/Zoehinga Tounwende Ida (BUR), Essiomle Dotche/Essiomle Komi Cyrille (TOG) and Adou Yedlock Marie/Daple Koue Alix Armande (CIV) taking charge of the games.

The winners of their respective competitions in Kinshasa will qualify through to the African continental phase of the IHF Women’s Trophy 2019-20, and then the winners of that will qualify through to the IHF Women’s Trophy – Intercontinental Phase.

And for junior teams only, the intercontinental phase has been upgraded to a qualification event for the 2020 IHF Women’s Junior World Championship, set to take place in Romania. For more information, click HERE.

As usual, the IHF will be organising a coaching course during each IHF Trophy competition and as part of the continued support for developing handball nations, the IHF will also cover the travel expenses of all teams to the competition venues.
