From 10-15 December, the city of Bujumbura in Burundi hosted the final IHF and International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Solidarity (OLSOL) course of 2018.
A mix of 37 men and women attended the OLSOL Technical Course for Coaches, run in cooperation with both the Burundi Olympic Committee (BOC) and the Burundi Handball Federation (BHF) which provided an IHF Level 2, C Licence certificate for successful participants.
IHF Lecturer Professor Khaled Hammouda and local expert Jean Claude Ndayirorere delivered the course which featured topics and curricula such as: selection, beginners training, juniors training, high level training, attack/counter-attack/organised attack, defence, goalkeepers, planning for training, weight training and much more.
Following the course, practical and written tests took place to measure the ability of each participant.
“The participants completed all studies in high spirits,” said IHF Lecturer Hammouda. “They were all serious and interested in all practical sessions and were at the top of focus throughout the theoretical studies.
“Also, they responded with a high degree to practical studies and applied them with all their efforts. In the end, I would like to commend the spirit, understanding and interaction of all participants.”
In related Olympic Solidarity news, the
IOC have announced that, effective as of 1 January 2019, James Macleod will become Director of the NOC Relations Department and of Olympic Solidarity.
Macleod has been Associate Director for Relations with the Olympic Movement under the supervision of the Deputy Director General since the beginning of 2017 having previously worked for Olympic Solidarity as Head of Athlete Programmes, before joining the London 2012 Organising Committee for the Olympic Games as Head of NOC and NPC Services and then the Baku 2015 European Games Organising Committee as Director of Athlete Services and Operations.
The IHF’s programme of Olympic Solidarity courses for 2019 starts in Bahrain with Manama set to host from 10-17 January.
