The Guinean
capital of Conakry will be the host of this year’s edition IHF Trophy
tournament for Zone II in Africa. From 23 to 28 July, incredible 17 teams will
take part in one of the biggest IHF Trophy tournaments in the world in terms of
participants. 9 teams in the women’s and 8 teams in the men’s competition will
face off against each other in a battle for a spot in the Continental Phase of
the IHF Trophy tournament.
Hosts
Guinea, zone winners Senegal, accompanied by Cabo Verde, Gambia, Morocco,
Guinea Bissau, Mali, Mauritania and Sierra Leone will play in the women’s
competition. The teams are divided into two groups, and after the preliminary
phase, the tournament will proceed immediately to the final with the best teams
of each group facing each other for the place in the Continental Phase.
The men’s
competition will feature last cycle’s continental winners Cabo Verde, hosts Guinea
as well as Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, and Sierra Leone.
Just like in the women’s competition, the teams will be divided into two groups
of 4, with semi-finals and finals to be played afterwards.
Along the
tournament, the International Handball Federation will organise courses for
coaches and referees. Mr Gilles Malfondet (FRA) will lead the course for
coaching, while Mr Henry Achifon (CMR) will be in charge of refereeing.
