The African Handball Confederation (CAHB) 2018 African Men’s Junior Championships enters its fifth of seven day playing days later today in Morocco after a rest day yesterday which had followed four days of action featuring teams from around in the continent battling it out at the Le Prince Moulay Rachid Hall in Morocco’s capital city,
A few days before the start of the competition it was confirmed that DR Congo, Sierra Leone and Zambia withdrew from competing, meaning the competition moved from two groups and a knockout format, to a league ranking featuring the seven remaining nations: Tunisia (TUN), Algeria (ALG), Angola (ANG), Nigeria (NGR), Egypt (EGY), Morocco (MAR) and Guinea (GUI).
After the four days of action Tunisia and Egypt – with three wins out of three each – top the league with six points each, although the Tunisians lie in top spot thanks to 72 goals scored, better than the 65 from Egypt. Tunisia are defending their title after beating Egypt in Bamako, Mali, back in 2016.
Nigeria are third on four points, with two wins and two losses and Algeria along with hosts Morocco take fifth and fourth respectively with three points each. Angola’s 23:18 win over Guinea ensured they sit in sixth, with their defeated rivals in seventh, having played four and lost four.
After a rest day yesterday (Tuesday 11 September), the teams are back in action today.
