One of the busiest IHF Trophy events this year is quickly approaching its conclusion as several east African teams are looking forward to the final matches of the Africa - Zone V tournament which concludes on Sunday 20 May.

After some venue changes, match throw-off times and the unfortunate withdrawal of Djibouti, which resulted in some adjustment to the previously announced groups, the Africa Zone V competition has seen some impressive performances and exciting clashes.

In the youth competition, Group B has seen some strong showings from Ethiopia as they won their three games against Burundi (27:20), Kenya (33:21) and Tanzania (42:15) to top the group after three matches, while Group A saw a much tighter competition with Uganda winning against Somalia (31:12) and Sudan (48:11). Naftar Nachenga, with 32 goals leads the top-scorer charts for Tanzania (as of the morning of 18 May).

The final on Sunday 20 May will be Kenya vs Ethiopia after Kenya beat hosts Uganda 22:16 (13:9) and Ethiopia beat Somalia 34:20 (16:11). Uganda will play Somalia in the bronze-medal match.

In the junior competition, Ethiopia won both of their matches in Group A (vs TAN 34:23) and a come-from-behind victory against Kenya 21:20 (9:12). Group B saw Rwanda top the group, winning all four of their matches against Burundi (37:22), Uganda (30:29), Sudan (55:8) and Somalia (46:24).

Rwandas dual strike threat of Honore Byiringiro (27 goals) and Yvan Kayitare (23) top the junior top-scorers chart.
