The 6th CAHB African Womens Youth Championship will throw-off today (11 September) in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.

Running until Sunday 17 September, all games will take place at the Polyvalente Sports Park in Abidjan with the competition featuring the seven teams of Angola (ANG), Egypt (EGY), Algeria (ALG), DR Congo (COD), Côte d'Ivoire (CIV), Senegal (SEN) and Tunisia (TUN).

The games start at 14:00hrs (local time) today with Angola taking on DR Congo, followed by the north African clash between Tunisia and Algeria and then hosts Côte d'Ivoire playing Senegal.

The competition is played on a round-robin basis with all teams playing each other and the team who finishes top of the group being crowned champions.

The CAHB African Womens Youth Championship started back in 2000 in Abidjan in a tournament won by hosts Côte d'Ivoire. The next version was nine years later, again in Abidjan, as Angola won the first of their three tournaments-in-a-row in 2009, followed by victory in Burkina Faso in 2011 and 2013 in Oyo, Republic of the Congo.

Egypt are title holders, having won the 2015 edition in Nairobi, Kenya after winning the round-robin competition which featured just four teams. Egypt and Angola had finished joint top after Angola had beaten Egypt 33:32 in the first round of matches and then Egypt won 32:26 in the final round of matches. With both teams on 10 points, Egypt took the title after the better head-to-head record.
