Ahead of the festival of African club handball which is the 35th CAHB Men’s and Women’s African Club Cup Winners Championship, starting tomorrow in Oujda, Morocco, the traditional curtain-raiser of the 26th Super Cup has taken place.

The competition, also known as the ‘Super Cup Babacar Fall’ in memory of the first Confederation of African Handball (CAHB) Chairman, pits the winners of the CAHB Champions League against the winners of the CAHB Cup Winners’ Cup.

In the all-Egyptian final, title-holders Zamalek retained their 2018 title, but were made to work against rivals Al Ahly, eventually winning 38:35 in the second additional period after the 60 minutes finished all-square at 27:27. The title was their sixth.

The all-Angola final saw Primeiro de Agosto beat Petro 19:!3 in a low-scoring final to make it five years in a row they have won the elite competition.

It also meant that, for the first time, the winners of the women’s competition qualified directly through to the inaugural IHF Women’s Super Globe, to be held in China in August, while Zamalek booked their ticket to the IHF Men’s Super Globe, to be held in Saudi Arabia.
