The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, ruled on the appeal of Qatari player Ahmed Abdelhak, which was filed against the decision of the IHF Disciplinary Panel to suspend the player as a consequence of the violation of the IHF Anti-Doping Rules during the 2017 IHF Men’s World Championship in France.

 

Ahmed Abdelhak remains suspended as the decision by the IHF Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel taken in April 2018 was confirmed. The period of ineligibility of four years expires at midnight on 23 January 2021.

 

Background

 

Ahmed Abdelhak was the subject of an anti-doping test on 24 January 2017 on the occasion of the IHF Men’s World Championship held in France. The test led to a positive finding for a prohibited substance. This substance, nandrolone, is listed under class S1.1b of the 2017 WADA Prohibited List. The B-sample analysis confirmed the A-sample analysis.

 

Therefore, the IHF Disciplinary Panel ruled that the above-mentioned player has committed a violation of Article 2.1 of the IHF Anti-Doping Regulations.
