The first Olympic Solidarity (OS) course for handball coaches in the Philippines was held in Manila from 27/09 to 03/10/2011. The main objective of the six OS course days, which took place at beginners’ level, was to explain all aspects of handball. The morning courses dealt with theoretical topics like coordination, general agility, defence, attack or fast break in handball, which were implemented in practical demonstrations in the afternoon. Among the 30 course participants were coaches, teachers and players, who exchanged knowledge and gained new skills. Especially the teachers recognized the high educational benefit of handball for the acquisition of basic competencies and skills in sports. The aim of the responsible persons of the Philippines Handball Federation is now to establish handball in the Philippines and to make it the no. 1 team sport in the country in the medium term.
