The third Olympic Solidarity
course organised by the IHF in 2018 opens in Faisalabad, Pakistan today. IHF
Lecturer Alireza Habibi will run the course from May 7 to 14 at the University
of Agriculture, focusing on several different topics targeted at coaches. A
minimum of 30 coaches, physical education teachers and others interested in
learning how to teach handball will participate.
Topics covered during the OLSOL
course will include base subjects such as the history, different kinds and key
aspects of handball; techniques in both attack and defence; and variations in defensive
formations. Individual skills will also be taught, such as goalkeeping
techniques, and one-on-one situations in both attack and defence. Lastly, the
course will inform participants of trends developed after the 2016 adaptation
of the Rules of the Game.
Olympic Solidarity in 2018
The OLSOL course in Pakistan is
the third organised by the IHF this year, after the 2018 programme opened with
a course in Rwanda in February and Olympic medal-winning coach Dr Chung Hyung
Kyun ran the second in Mongolia in April. At least two more courses are planned
by the IHF in 2018, though more may be added to the calendar.
The Olympic Solidarity programme
was introduced by the International Olympic Committee more than 50 years ago,
with the goal of assisting the nations most in need with athlete, coach and
sports administration development.
