In terms of the handball development
cooperation between IHF and IOC, a second Olympic Solidarity Coaching Course
was effectively held at the second time in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from 9-15 April
2018, in conjuction with the Mongolian
Handball Federation (MHF) and the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Mongolia.
Held at the NOC meeting
hall and Futsal Sports Hall of Mongolia, the course was led by IHF lecturer Dr
Hyung-Kyun Chung (KOR) and local expert Dr Jargalsaikhan Dorjsuren with all successful
participants from provinces all over Mongolia. A total of 40 coaches from
Arkhangai, Bayankhongor, Bulgan, Gobi-Altai, Darkhan-Uul, Dornod, Dornogobi,
Zavkhan, Selenge provinces and the capital Ulaanbaatar city attended the
seven-day course.
The course featured a
combination of theory and practice sessions along with open group discussions. According
to the general programme of the course, many topics were covered including
handball sport’s history, new rules, techniques, tactical knowledge, methods,
instruments, standard, beach handball and school handball, athletes’ licence, judging
system, coaching leadership, and its’ planning, and coach’s responsibility.
The IHF lecturer taught lessons based on the
instruction material from the IHF
Education Centre while he showed the participants Olympic Games Handball
events in terms of training session exercises, tactics, and technical methods.
In addition to these interesting subjects, the participants received some knowledge
about the basic exercises during warm-up and training, defensive, attacking,
and goalkeeper play, ball control and pass, workouts, training methods,
national team training, making analysis and giving some advice on the games in
the practical session.
Meanwhile, the National
University Handball Championship (21 men’s and women’s teams enrolled) was held
in Ulaanbaatar city where all course participants were examined, making some
analyses and conclusions to prove their knowledge earned at the course as
practical session. All participants were handed balls, Rules Books,
instructional handouts, CD, and video material by IHF.
The final day ended
with a closing ceremony, certificate presentation and farewell party where Mr
Badar-Uugan, the MNOC General Secretary, MHF President Dr Jargalsaikhan, and IHF
lecturer Dr Hyung-Kyun Chung presented the IOC certificates, and IHF level C
coaching course diplomas.
As a main instructor Dr Chung expressed that “all participating coaches
were active for the course, while he also mentioned the course was significant,
well qualified, and well managed.”
Therefore, the local expert Dr Jargalisakhan highlighted that “the
participants learned theoretical and practical lessons, new rules update, and
they demonstrated their knowledge starting from the National University
Championship.”
Some coaches said that “the course opened our eyes and gave us opportunity
to get better knowledge and to develop handball through the schools,
universities, provinces, cities where we are referred to as well as more
possibilities.”
IHF lecturer Dr Chung was awarded the “Olympic Fame” by Mongolia NOC for
his successful leadership of the course.
