After two days of matches, the third edition of the Asian Handball Federation’s (AHF) Women’s Club Championship has its first rest day in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Six clubs are taking part from four countries with Almaty (KAZ), Astana (KAZ), Uzbechka (UZB), T-Sports Club (IND), Kaysar (KAZ), Larestan (IRI) all playing, and already the home teams are looking strong.

Almaty, who have appeared in both previous editions of the championship, lie top having beaten T-Sports Club from India and country rivals Astana in the first two matches. They lie above Kaysar, also from Kazakhstan, in the group, in top spot thanks to their superior goal difference. Indian side T-Sports Club are appearing in the tournament for the first time and currently lie in bottom spot, having lost both of their games.

After a rest day today (Friday 5 October), the teams are back in action tomorrow, with two further match days after then to decide the continental champions in the tournament which is being played on a round-robin basis with each team playing each other once in a league format and the team which finishes top of the league crowned continental champions. All games are being played at the Dostyk Universal Sports Complex in Kazakhstan’s largest city, Almaty.

The tournament opened with a vibrant opening ceremony featuring a number of dances and music from Kazakhstan and speeches from a variety of VIPs and special guests.
