New Algeria men’s national team coach Sead
Hasanefendic, did not have much to smile about in Tunis this past weekend
as he watched his side lose all three of their games in the Tunisian Handball
Federation’s ‘Four Nations’ tournament held this past international break.
The hosts won the title thanks to wins
against all three sides including an opening 28:26 victory against Saudi
Arabia, with Montpellier’s Mohamed Soussi top-scoring on four, followed by a
30:20 win over Gudmundur Gudmundsson's Bahrain in which Chambery Savoie Mont
Blanc Handball’s Amine Bannour top-scored with nine.
Toni Gerona’s side then finished off their
home tournament with a 33:22 win against Hasanefendic’s Algeria, in which the
27-year-old right-back Bannour finished with the most strikes, on six, meaning
he would finish as the tournament top-scorer on 15.
All six games took place at the El Menzah
Sports Palace and were livestreamed or shown on Tunisia’s Watania 1 with entry
to the arena free for fans.
The tournament allowed Tunisia and Algeria
to prepare for the 2018 CAHB African Men’s Championship in Gabon, and Saudi
Arabia and Bahrain to get ready for the 2018
AHF Asian Men’s Championship in Korea.
