The 8th AHF Asian Men’s Youth Championship concluded in Amman, Jordan yesterday, after an initial 14 teams competed for continental honours over the 10-day championship (16-26 September).

The tournament had to be reconfigured after Iraq and South Korea were both disqualified, following their group C match on 18 September which was according to the Asian Handball Federation, “suspended permanently due the fact that both the teams intentionally wanted to lose the match. Every possible step was taken to continue the game before it was decided to permanently suspend it. Both the teams are manipulating with scores and warned twice to play Handball and keep the spirits of Handball.”

This meant that the results of both the teams in Jordan were nullified and both teams were disqualified from further matches. The matter is set to be raised in front of the AHF Executive Committee in the future for further action.

The Korea Handball Federation and the officials of the team who accompanied the players to the 8th Asian Men's Youth Handball championship, made an apology to the AHF, participating teams, spectators, technical officials, referees and organiser for the incident.

On court, Bahrain won the continental title after beating Japan 34:31 in the final in a repeat of the 2016 edition, which Bahrain also won.

Chinese Taipei grabbed third place, beating Saudi Arabia 29:26 in the bronze-medal match.

All four teams are now qualified through to the 2019 IHF Men’s Youth World Championship – which will be held in FYR Macedonia.
