Argentina defeated Brazil to claim the 2017
Men’s Youth Pan American Championship title on Sunday in Santiago, Chile in a
memorable match decided in extra time. Following a final score of 16:16 at the
60-minute whistle, Argentina edged Brazil 22:21 in the 10-minute extra-time
period.
Hosts Chile defeated Venezuela 35:20 to
claim the bronze medal, while the crucial fifth place play-off to decide the
last team qualified for the 2017 IHF Men’s Youth (U19) World Championship was
won by Mexico. Mexico beat Uruguay 25:15 and will therefore travel to Georgia
in August for the nation’s first-ever IHF Men’s World Championship in any age
category.

The title takes Argentina’s record in the

traditional rivals has ever won the title. Chile tally six bronze medals thanks
to their victory in the play-off for third place.
