In less than one month all eyes of the beach handball world will be on Hungary when 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams will fight for the title of Beach Handball World Champions. The VII Men’s and Women’s Beach Handball Championships will take place from 12 to 17 July 2016 in Budapest on the beautiful Margareth Island on the river Danube.

 

Eagerly awaited by beach handball fans from all over the world, the match schedule has now been released. The championships start on 12 July, 10:00am with defending men’s World Champions Brazil vs 2004 World Champions Egypt, the latter meeting 2014 bronze medallists and reigning Asian Champions Qatar later that day, which is another promising match. After 24 matches on day 1, another 24 await the fans on 13 July. There, both host teams have to face the teams of Spain. Hungary’s men’s team thus have to face the runners-up of the European Championship and Spain’s women’s team meet with the reigning European Champions and 2014 World Championship runners-up. 14 July brings along some thrilling matches as well. Not only that Brazil play Qatar, but also the latest men’s final of a European Championship is repeated with Croatia facing Spain. In the women’s category, Italy, 2015 European Championship bronze medallists, play against the hosts and Brazil, defending World Champions in the women’s category as well, compete against 2014 bronze medallists Norway.

 

After the Preliminary Round, in both the men’s and women’s competition, the best 3 teams of groups A and B advance to the Main Round (15-16 July). All other teams play a Consolation Round. The Semi-Finals are staged on 16 July and places one to ten in each gender category will be determined on 17 July.
