It was a dramatic final with a lucky winner: Denmark. After the first jubilation Claus Hansen, coach of the Gold Medallist answered on three questions.

Congratulation to the title! What was the reason for your victory?

Hansen: We never give up and as in the semi-final against France we came back in the second half. Our goalkeeper was very strong and the defence played also very well. This was our secret. But I have to congratulate the Spanish team. It was a hard way and Spain is also a team full of talents.

Denmark reached the final matches on all three Male World Championships this year, won two times silver, now gold. Is that the beginning of a great handball era “made in Denmark”?

Hansen: I hope so. But we must remain realistic. The top teams of the world play nearly on the same level. I would say: This year is a good year for the Danish handball and a result of the good job of thousands of enthusiastic friends of our sport in my country, working as coach, teacher, referee, working in the federation.

In the 1990th the handball world spoke about the Danish women’s team. Now the men teams are having great performances. Are the Danish men now better than the women?

Hansen: Of course no! Our Women’s Youth Team won the European Championship last week. Let me say: We are both on the same level, but this level is high!
