On the fringes of the final weekend of the Men’s World Championship in
Spain, the IHF Council held their ordinary meeting on Saturday (26 January) in
Barcelona. Of course, the current
competition – with only two decisive medal matches to come – was in focus. Juan
De Dios, President of the Spanish Handball Federation, gave an overview of the
World Championship and thanked the IHF for their cooperation.
After several continental Election Congresses the composition of the IHF
Council has changed, the new members Mario Moccia (Argentina), Charles
Omboumahou (Congo) and Arne Elovsson (Sweden) were introduced and confirmed the
code of conduct for IHF Council Members.
IHF President Dr. Hassan Moustafa gave an overview of his activities
since the last Council meeting, and the Chairmen of the IHF Commissions
presented their activities.
The Medical Commission presented a new task, as all IHF referees will
need a medical certificate in future. Leon Kalin, Chairman of the Commission of
Organizing and Competitions, gave a status report on the upcoming IHF
competitions.
In addition a delegation of the Qatar Handball Association presented the
four arenas for the 2015 Men’s World Championship: Lusail Multipurpose Hall, Al
Sadd Multipurpose Hall, Al Gharafa Multipurpose Hall and Aspire Dome Indoor
Arena.
The IHF Council also confirmed a request by Qatar Handball Association
to postpone the 2013 IHF Election Congress in Doha for one week due to the
Islamic feast Aid al Adha.
