From 22 to 26 November 2012, Barquisimeto in Venezuela will be the host of the South American Zone of the IHF Trophy for Pan America. 6 men’s teams and 4 women’s teams will compete in the course of the coming week for a place on the Continental Phase of the competition. Besides host Venezuela, the junior men’s teams of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru will take part in the tournament made up of two groups with three teams each, while in the women’s competition the hosts will take on Colombia, Peru and Bolivia in a round robin tournament. The winner of these competitions will join Guatemala and Mexico for the Continental Final of the men’s edition and Guatemala and Canada for the women’s edition of the IHF Trophy for Pan America. The Continental Phase is set to be played in spring 2013 (venue and dates yet to be announced).

As it is usual practice, the IHF Trophy will be accompanied by two courses organized by the International Handball Federation: one for referees and one for coaches. Mr Javier Moure Fernandez (ESP) will stage the referee course on behalf of the International Handball Federation, while Mr Yvon Laurans (FRA) will be in charge of the course for coaches.
