The tournament of the North American Zone of the IHF Trophy will take place in Mexico City, between 7 and 10 November. Four North American teams will take part in a group style tournament over four days, where the top male and female team will progress to the continental phase in the spring of 2013. Joining the hosts in Mexico City will be Canada, Puerto Rico and the United States of America. With the North American zone being one of the most balanced zones in terms of ability this tournament is too close to call, what is clear is that each of the four teams will be motivated to go out and perform well and hopefully advance onwards.

As this is the first ever IHF Trophy tournament to be hold in the North American Zone, the tournament will also represent a milestone for the IHF in terms of development. Like at all IHF Trophy events, there will also be a series of courses running during these four days. Mohammed Benkreira (CAN) will be holding the course for coaches and Salvio Sedrez (BRA) will be giving a referee course, both lecturers nominated by the International Handball Federation.
