Managua in Nicaragua will be hosting the IHF Trophy - Central American Zone – in Pan-America from 24 to 28 October 2012. Six Central American nations will compete during one week for the right to represent their zone at the continental phase to be taking place in the first quarter of 2013. Beside host Nicaragua, who organizes its first ever IHF tournament, the junior national teams of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama will participate in the named event. The competition will see two groups of three teams each in the preliminaries followed by semi-finals and finals. The men’s and women’s junior competitions will be running in parallel.
Guatemala is the team that won the zone’s previous IHF Trophy cycle (both competitions ). As it is commonplace the International Handball Federation will organize courses for referees and coaches in parallel with the tournament. Mr Vicente Leon Breto (ESP) will hold the course for referees on behalf of the IHF, while Mr Yvon Laurans (FRA) will be in charge of the coaching course.
The Handbal Federation of Nicaragua announced the tournament in a press conference on 23 October 2012.
