After a training day, all competing teams at the first edition of the Men’s and Women’s IHF U17 Beach Handball World Championships spring into action on the Mauritius sand tomorrow looking for tickets for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.


Portugal vs Australia and Italy vs New Zealand will open the male competition at 9.30 in the morning while the female will begin at 10.20 with Thailand vs Mauritius, Spain vs American Samoa and Portugal vs Australia.


Each team will play their first two preliminary round matches tomorrow, while on the second competition day the groups phase will be completed with a third game. The main round will take place on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 and the last two days are reserved for placement matches and the finals.

 

Qualification for the 2018 Youth Olympics


9 quota places for the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) are to be allocated at each competition.


The Mauritius 2017 top ranked teams of each continent will claim their YOG berth according to the following distribution:


- 1 Africa

- 2 Asia

- 3 Europe

- 2 Pan America

- 1 Oceania


As hosts, Argentina have to choose one of its two teams in order to represent them next year at the U18 Olympics.
