The quarter-final stage of the IHF Men’s U17 Beach Handball World Championship is ready to begin after Russia and Spain won the Main Round groups. Later on the day, it will be time for the semi-finals.

 

Main Round – Group I

 

Russia beat Chinese Taipei 2:0 (20:19 and 24:15) and finished the Main Round as the top team of Group I. Thailand beat Pakistan in two sets (21:20, 23:14) and Venezuela did so with Mauritius (16:6 and 23:8).

 

Russia, Thailand, Venezuela and Chinese Taipei proceeded to the quarter-finals in view of a Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympics place. The pairings are the following: Russia vs Portugal, Venezuela vs Italy, Chinese Taipei vs Spain and Thailand vs Argentina.

Main Round – Group II

 

Spain defeated Italy 2:0 (25:24 and 30:29) in a very tight match to finish the Main Round in first place of Group II. Portugal won 2:0 (25:18 and 25:16) versus Paraguay and Argentina claimed the victory in two sets against the Aussies (16:8 and 21:14).

 

Spain, Italy, Argentina and Portugal advanced to the quarter-final stage of the IHF Men’s U17 Beach Handball World Championship. The scheduled games looking for a semi-final spot are the following: Russia vs Portugal, Venezuela vs Italy, Chinese Taipei vs Spain and Thailand vs Argentina.

New Zealand beat Togo in two sets (13:12 and 17:15) to finish 1st in the Consolation Round. The two teams as well as South Africa are playing tomorrow for the 9-15 places.
