Russia, Thailand, Italy and Spain lead the Main Round of the IHF Men’s U17 Beach Handball World Championship.
Main Round – Group I
Russia are on top of Group I after the two-set victories they
claimed today in front of Mauritius (22:11 and 19:8) and Pakistan (17:12 and
19:17). Thailand follow them in the rank as they won their two matches 2:0
against Chinese Taipei (23:14 and 20:19) and the hosts Mauritius (24:9 and
20:9).
Venezuela lost to Pakistan 2:1 (19:20, 19:15, SO 2:4) but then
took the victory versus Chinese Taipei (23:22 and 24:14) and the three teams are
now on 4 points.
Tomorrow the Russians will play Chinese Taipei, Pakistan will
meet Thailand and Venezuela will take on Mauritius. Then the four
quarter-finalists will be defined.

Main Round – Group II
Italy and Spain are still unbeaten. The Italians beat
Paraguay in two sets (25:12 and 18:15) and then did the same with Argentina
(27:10 and 20:16). Spain also ended the day with two wins — versus Australia
2:0 (28:6 and 24:16) and against Portugal by the same result (27:10 and 20:16).
The Portuguese didn’t start the main round well, as they lost
to Argentina 2:1 in the morning (14:16,
23:19, 8:9).
Paraguay clinched their first two points of the phase as they
won their contest versus Australia 2:0 (18:17 and 19:12).
Tomorrow all eyes will be on the duel between the leaders
Italy and Spain, as Argentina will play Australia and Paraguay will play
Portugal looking for a quarter-final spot.

Consolation Round
South Africa lost in two sets their games against Togo (4:20
and 14:22) and New Zealand (10:18 and 11:22). Tomorrow Togo will face the
Oceania side as both seek for the highest rank possible in views of a Buenos
Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games quota place.
