The bidding procedure for hosting the IHF World Championships is reaching its final stages as no less than 9 national federations have expressed interests in staging the IHF’s flagships Events.

The national federations of Hungary, Switzerland, Slovakia, Poland, Sweden and France have all submitted letters of intent for hosting both the 2021 and 2023 Men’s World Championship. The national federation of Egypt is interested in the 2021 men’s Event, while the national federations of Norway and Korea expressed their interest only for the 2023 men’s Event.

There are less applicants for the Women’s World Championship as the national federation of France is the only bidder for the Event in 2021, while three federations (Norway, Korea and France) will have to work really hard in order to outbid their competition and land the rights to host the Women’s World Championship in 2023.

The decision about awarding the rights to host these Events will be made by the IHF Council convening on the fringes of the IHF Ordinary Congress which will take place in Budapest from 4 to 7 June 2015.

All national federations bidding to host a World Championship must confirm they comply with the basic terms and conditions of the IHF no later than 13 March 2015, while the Event and Bidding Concept must be submitted by 1 May 2015 at the latest. All bidders will have a chance to present the bid in the Headquarters of the International Handball Federation in Basel on 8 May 2015. The final decision will be made on 4 June by the IHF Council during the IHF Congress in Budapest.
