New Zealand will organize the IHF Trophy
for Oceania for the first time, and it will the biggest of all IHF Trophies in
the region so far. 9 teams in men’s competition and 7 in women’s will compete
over a week-long tournament to secure a spot on the IHF Trophy InterContinental
Phase which will take place in 2015.
The national teams of Papua New Guinea
as well as American Samoa, the associate member of the IHF Tahiti as well as
the regional member New Caledonia, will have their first time participation on
an international event under the auspicies od the International Handball
Federation since joining the IHF on its Congress in Doha in October 2013.
This is the third edition of the IHF
Trophy for Oceania, the previous two taking place in Australia and Samoa.
Australia managed to win the two Events in both men’s and women’s Competition
and will start the Event in New Zealand as a main contender for a spot on the
Inter Continental Phase.
The International Handball Federation in
order to further develop and promote handball in the region will organize
courses for coaches and referees simoultaneous to the Competition. Mr.
Frantisek Taborsky (CZE) will be heading the course for coaches, while Mr.
Roger Xhonneux (BEL) will in charge of the course for referees.
