From 7 to 12 September 2014 the IHF Super Globe will be carried out for the fifth straight time in Doha – this time under special circumstances: The pinnacle tournament for the world's best club sides will be the first test event for the 2015 Men’s World Championship in Qatar. Therefore the matches will take place in the newly constructed Qatar Handball Association complex, one of the four World Championship venues.
On Thursday (19 June, 11:00 local time) the draw event for the IHF Super Globe will be conducted in Doha. By now, six of the eight participants have been confirmed – the last two spots will be decided at the Oceania qualification in New Caledonia on 20 June and upon completion of the Emir’s Cup in Qatar, at which the Qatari wild card team will be decided.
Those are the pots for the draw event:
Pot 1: FC Barcelona (Spain, defending champions), SG Flensburg-Handewitt (Germany, Europe)
Pot 2: El-Jaish (Qatar, Asia), Esperance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia, Africa)
Pot 3: Al-Sadd (Qatar, organizer), Taubate (Brazil, Pan-America)
Pot 4: Wild card participant, Oceania representative
As the IHF Super Globe is played in two preliminary round groups with four teams each, the draw procedure is as follows:
First the two teams of pot 4 are allocated to the two groups, followed by the pots 2 and 1. Finally Al-Sadd as the organizer can choose their respective group, whereas Taubate will be allocated to the remaining group.
